Blog #3 - Speech by John Kleist
After researching global warming, I was all for it. Al Gore made such good points about how global warming was the cause of the snow on mountain tops melting away and all the major disasters. He also pointed out lakes shrinking and how there is more and more co2 each year. however, after listening to John Kleist, I am now more confused than ever. He too had some powerful explanations about the changes of the earth's temperature. He goes on to say how the average temp in the last 550 million years is approximately 22C but today it is only 14C. John states that the earth is actually cooler now than it has been in a while. His explanation for the glaciers shrinking is simply natures course. He also believes through time they will build back up, which to me makes sense. In school we are taught that history repeats itself so why would this not apply to the earth and the affects nature has on it. John Kleist made a good point when he said it is not as if these disasters today are necessarily worse than the ones before, it is just that we now have the technology to see just how powerful they are. Both John and Al Gore have really good evidence to why things are the way they are, which at the moment makes me confused on what exactly it is that I believe.

Just like you, I was totally confused on what to believe. It almost seems like both sides have really good evidences that makes sense! Kleist's information about the new technologies we have now vs. back then made a very strong point in his argument. Gore's presentation was so well put together it makes the audience build a sense of responsibility as he continues to speak. However due to the fact that Gore is actually a politician and not a scientist, it actually made it an easy target for criticism. As far as what do I believe...I want change. I just simply can't see the bad side of having clean air, lower energy bills, and not having to depend on fossil fuels. I rather join in and help the environment around me then to sit back and wait to see the outcome that probably won't easily reach.
ReplyDeleteI to was confused after seeing the video "Convenient Truth". Gore and others seem to be making a lot of money off of that documentary. Gore arrived to the seminars alone in his limo. How is that for Co2 emissions. It seems that both the politicians and scientists are making money off of global warming. It seems that nobody is sure of the facts as science is just that, scientific guessing. It was only 20 years ago that we discovered how the continents drift. Science is not an exact science. It reminds me of that old song "The more I know, the less I understanding".
